It started
with my mom
and grandma.
I didn't stumble into skincare - I grew up in it. My mom and grandmas were my first teachers. Born in Japan and raised in Hawai'i, I had two sets of traditions shaping how I thought about beauty from the beginning. SPF before it was cool. Matcha and green tea before it was a trend.
When I started my corporate job, I found myself spending hours researching the ingredients behind the routines I'd always taken for granted. What was actually in those products? Why did certain foods make my skin glow? The questions my grandma couldn't always answer sent me deep into ingredient decks, dermatology journals, and Japanese beauty counters.
In 2020, during lockdown, I started sharing what I was learning and the response surprised me. Turns out, a lot of people had the same questions I did.
